The first step in getting started is to call (214-636-0871) or email (amanda@kidspeakdallas.
com) Amanda Rollins, MS, CCC-SLP to set up a Speech and Language Evaluation for your
child.

Speech and Language Evaluations
A speech and language evaluation includes standardized language and articulation testing
(if possible) as well as an informal functional communication evaluation where the Speech-
Language Pathologist evaluates the child’s functional abilities across areas of play,
receptive language, expressive language, and social communication skills (pragmatic
language).  Oral motor skills, fluency and voice may also be evaluated on an as-needed
basis.  As a parent you will receive: a Comprehensive Evaluation Report, a Treatment Plan
and Recommendations for your child within all of their environments.

What To Expect During an Evaluation:

Evaluations are conducted on site at our Addison office location and will take approximately
one to two hours to complete.  The first portion of the evaluation consists of the therapist
engaging with the child without the parent(s).  We are aware that the initial separation from a
parent may be difficult for some children.  Please allow your therapist the opportunity to
handle the situation.  Initially, the therapist will take the child back to the therapy room where
they will engage in informal play procedures like playing with bubbles, a baby doll, blocks,
etc. and formal standardized testing if possible.  During the formal standardized testing, the
child may look and talk about pictures as well as play with more toys as the therapist directs
them.  Once the testing procedures are completed, the parent(s) will be asked to join the
therapist and the child in the therapy room.  At this time, the therapist and/or parent(s) may
have questions to ask and the therapist may be giving a brief report on how the child did as
well as recommendations.  As the therapist and parent(s) talk, this may be a good time for
the child to continue playing or eat a quick snack that the parent(s) have brought.   All
appropriate paperwork and fees will be handled before the child is taken back to the therapy
room.
